Why is Malaria the modern day Black Death?
Sanitation:
Water, sanitation and hygiene are the vital elements that are needed for a healthy organism. One of the reasons why Malaria is the modern day Bubonic Plague is because the areas most affected by Malaria have extremely poor sanitation. This means that there is not enough clean, fresh water and other supplies that are needed to eliminate Malaria. People living in poverty such as in parts of Africa are living in almost the same way as the people of Europe did during the time of the Black Death. Their poor sanitation makes it easy for the disease to spread and provides perfect conditions for the parasite and its host mosquito to breed. Because these people are living in poverty it means their health will always be poor, which means they are more susceptible to diseases like Malaria. Poor drainage in houses means there is sitting water in the rooms, this leads to a lot of mosquitoes breeding and living in rooms where people live. Most people cannot afford to put in water tanks or even put drains into their houses. It is difficult for families living in poor countries because they simply do not have the money they need to protect themselves and their houses from the mosquitoes carrying Malaria. Simple things like clean water and sanitation, things which developed countries like ours have an abundance of, means the difference between life and death from deadly diseases such as Malaria. These same issues are what made the Black Death so horrible and are the reason it wiped out so many cities.

Living Conditions:
Another reason why Malaria is the modern day Black Death is due to the living conditions. As they are today, the living conditions in poverty ridden countries are almost the same as conditions when the black death occurred. During the black death, the living conditions were filthy, rats and mice scurried through buildings which were overfilled with people. The poor lived in tall stone buildings which were extremely overcrowded. They slept on straw pallets, logs as pillows and piles of hay, which provided warmth, which is much like today in poor countries. As they do today, many poor people lived in dirty, unhealthy conditions without clean water or proper bathrooms. these actions definitely increased chances of the people contracting the disease.

Climate :
Climate contributes to the spread of disease such as Malaria because of the different fauna and flora of the different climatised areas. Different climates can affect the start, spread and traits of a disease. Climates can mean many things as different climates can be an ideal environment for different types of insects and the growing and thriving of certain diseases. Diseases such as Malaria are so effective in humid, arid climates around the equator where some types of insects are isolated to. And to make it even better, most of these areas are the most poorly sanitised and economically weak countries in the world (South America, Africa, India and Asia).

Lack of funding for vaccine:
The lack of Funding contributes largely to the spread of Malaria, it has an especially large contribution because the regions where Malaria is most deadly are the poorest regions on Earth. Not only does the lack of funding help to stop the research but it also helps to stop large productions of Mosquito nets and Insecticide. Bill Gates has donated more money to Malaria research than he has left in his will to each of his children. Although he has donated so much to Malaria research it is not enough to produce protection and a possible resistant or killer. It seems like there has been enough money donated to the research because in 2011 $1.8 billion was donated, the only problem is compared to the amount of area and people affected plus with the addition of the complexity of the Parasite it is not enough.
